St. Luke’s Hospice Chief Executive calls on community for vital support Eileen Marshall, CEO from St. Luke’s Hospice, has written to thousands of Hospice supporters asking for help this Springtime. Donate today "For many months the national media has reported that hospices across the country are facing significant and, in some cases, critical financial pressures. In December 2024, the government and Hospice UK announced 100 million pounds of investment to help improve buildings, equipment, IT systems, accommodation, gardens and outdoor spaces. Whilst we are extremely grateful to have received confirmation of our proportion of this funding, we are regrettably unable to use it for our general running costs, and in the coming year we must still raise over £11,000 per day to simply maintain our services. Increases in minimum wage and National Insurance, coupled with higher utility bills and other insurances have resulted in over £450,000 of additional costs expected in the coming 12 months. We know that our wonderful community is dedicated to helping St. Luke's Hospice - how, where and when you can. At this time, I am respectfully asking if you would consider making a much-needed donation. As a registered charity we are reliant on kindness and generosity - as we have been since the idea of a Hospice for Basildon and Thurrock was considered many years ago. Support our Sunflower Appeal Throughout this year we will also continue to develop strategies to help to meet the considerable financial pressures we are facing. We know there will be challenging days and difficult decisions ahead to ensure St. Luke's Hospice is here in 10 years, 20 years and for many generations to come. I would like to thank you all those who keep the spirit and care of St. Luke's Hospice present in our community - and for your unwavering pledge to keep our Hospice for our children, grandchildren and future generations”.
